The “Giovanni Besenzoni” Award

24 March 2023

In Sarnico (Brescia) at the headquarters of Besenzoni S.p.A., a company founded in 1967 by Giovanni Besenzoni, the first “Giovanni Besenzoni 2023 Anniversary Collection” project, organised in partnership with the LABA Brescia and Trentino Academy of Fine Arts, concluded with the awarding of a scholarship.

The prize, named after Giovanni Besenzioni who was often known to say that “innovation means looking to the future, hand in hand with the past“, is dedicated to young people aiming to encourage the emergence of new studies and ideas focused on creative aspects of collective interest and artistic progress.

The Giovanni Besenzoni Award,” explained Giorgio Besenzoni, CEO of Besenzoni S.p.A., “is a new addition this year that we have been able to realise with thanks to the LABA Academy and is a key part of the company’s 55th anniversary celebration. For us, it has always been very important to involve young people, stimulating and encouraging them to study, to embrace creativity, and pursue development in the field of yachting design, and this award fully confirms this commitment of ours“.

The students of the first and second years of the two-year Industrial & Research Design course had to develop a gangway design following specific company guidelines, and the results were assessed by a jury composed of Giorgio Besenzoni, designer Francesco Forcellini, Filippo Rossi in charge of the workshop, lecturers Marco Ribola and Mauro Martinuz, and LABA director Valerio Borgonuovo.

The “Giovanni Besenzoni” prize was awarded to a pair of young designers composed of Francesca De Feudis and Laura Facchetti (pictured in the photo with Giorgio Besenzoni and Filippo Rossi) for the Alaia design, specifically due to their “new vision of the traditional gangway“, and for the Arco gangwaystaircase design for the “originality and decomposition featured in the design“.
