PRIZE CEREMONY FOR FIV SAILING SCHOOLS AND FOR THE 32nd millevele regatta: KAURIS II wins
Crowds of visitors braved the weather forecast today and flooded the pavilions of the 59th Genoa International Boat Show. And their daring spirit paid off. Menacing clouds loomed over the many events that populated today’s programme but no rain in sight. Conferences, award ceremonies, exhibitions, sea experience events and many other events organised by the exhibitors themselves for visitors.
MILLEVELE PRIZE CEREMONY
Kauris II won the 2019 edition of Genoa’s Millevele Regatta, held by the Italian Yacht Club. Nicolò Carpaneda, accepting on behalf of Giovanni Arvedi, received the first prize from the President of the Italian Yacht Club, Nicolò Reggio, alongside the President of UCINA Saverio Cecchi, who, as host of the event, held the ceremony in the ForumUCINA Hall, the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci and Regional Assessor Ilaria Cavo.
Carpaneda’s team included Brazil’s multiple Olympic medallist Torben Grael, who undoubtedly contributed to yesterday’s victory with exceptional wind conditions (15-18 knots on flat waters).
Second place went to Dario Castiglia’s Remax One and the Italian Yacht Club’s Indomabile Pensiero came in third.
Riding the wave of such a successful edition organised at the Genoa International Boat Show, featuring almost 200 vessels, the Italian Yacht Club has confirmed they will be organising the event again next year in the same period.
Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa: “Yesterday was a great day for Genoa, 187 boats took part in the regatta, we need to keep moving forward to convince more and more people to take part and make next year’s edition even better than this year. Seeing these boats sail past Corso Italia will have definitely made people fall in love with this sport, seeing these beautiful vessels has definitely been beneficial for the city.”
Nicolò Reggio, President of the Italian Yacht Club: “A huge thanks to those who chose to take part in this Genoa-based event, an event we have been organising for years and which we have wanted to associate with the Genoa International Boat Show. This is a unique opportunity and we are delighted that you were able to take part in such a wonderful regatta. I would like to thank the whole team at the Italian Yacht Club, it is a lot of effort but we are always happy to do it.”
Ilaria Cavo, Liguria’s Regional Assessor for Communication, Education and Youth and Cultural Policies: “I was delighted to have been a member of team Kauris, from the excitement at the start of the race to the more institutional moments. The fact that the Millevele Regatta is a part of the Genoa International Boat Show just goes to show how both events are of key importance. The Boat Show’s strong point is that it is made up of an immense series of quality events making it something greater. This year there is even more culture within the Boat Show thanks to the beautiful sculptures on display, there is also a lot of sport, combining these worlds is of fundamental importance for both. And then there’s Genoa, with this spectacular regatta that has won over the whole city and been so successful. This is the meaning of this great event.”
FIV SAILING SCHOOL AWARDS
Once again, this year saw the Italian Sailing Federation award Italy’s best sailing schools during the Genoa International Boat Show,for their number of registered members, meeting participations and quality. The Federation’s President Francesco Ettorre alongside the National Councillor Ignazio Florio Pipitone awarded this year’s top ten: Varazze Club Nautico, Yacht Club Santo Stefano, Circolo Velico Ventotene, Plan Sail Bracciano, LNI Anzio, Club Nautico Capodimonte, LNI Ostia, Circolo remiero-velico Terracina, Yacht Club Italiano and, in first place, the Venice-based Compagnia della Vela.
This was also a chance to discuss the many initiatives of each club, including differently abled sailing, bringing children closer to the world of sailing from schools along with adults as well, inspiring more and more competitive sailors in a fun way, all while teaching the importance of sustainability.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The President of UCINA, Italy’s Marine Industry Association, Saverio Cecchi was awarded an acknowledgement by FITT S.p.a., a company that produces complete systems in thermo-plastic materials for fluid passage, as part of their 50th anniversary. The plaque was handed out by the CEO Alessandro Mezzalira: “We are celebrating with you, here at the Genoa International Boat Show, our first 50 years of business following the values that unite us and inspire how we operate every day and how you represent the companies of this industry”.
