Sustainability drives every aspect of the yachting industry, from architecture to design. The entire industry is determined to reduce its environmental impact and it is with this same calling that the Genoa International Boat Show has defined its 64th edition this year.
In demonstration of the event’s tangible commitment to the environment, RINA Services has presented the ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event design of the Genoa Boat Show on Friday 20th September.
The verification process was carried out by the multinational certification company RINA, ensuring all requirements were implemented during the Boat Show’s planning phases.
Paolo Moretti, Managing Director of RINA Services, had this to say: “To receive an ISO 20121 certificate means that an event has been managed in a sustainable manner and is officially compliant with the certificate’s key standards. I would like to congratulate I Saloni Nautici on achieving this certification for the Genoa International Boat Show, as a testament to its commitment to promoting concrete ESG actions as early as throughout the conception and planning phases of this 64th edition of the Show“.
Andrea Razeto, President of I Saloni Nautici: “The ISO 20121 certification for the sustainable design of the Genoa International Boat Show is a tangible demonstration of the fact that sustainability is not only the guiding thread of the event, but the essence of its architecture and that of everything you see around you. The verification process carried out by the multinational certification body RINA, which is currently verifying the implementation of the certification’s requirements over the course of the design phase, makes us proud to have been able to turn an important objective achieved, thanks to the commitment of the entire I Saloni Nautici structure and to the contributions of the Environment and Health Society, into something truly tangible. It is from here, from our Genoa Boat Show, that we will now begin the long journey in which our entire industry, the entire yachting sector, has decided to commit its economic and human efforts“.
Embarking on this path of sustainable event management means promoting real action in the field of sustainability. The concept of sustainability is not static but dynamic, a concept that evolves over time and, in this context, is characterised by its own specific environmental, social and economic dimensions, creating value for all the stakeholders involved: visitors, exhibitors, suppliers, partners, and the local community.
An event is managed sustainably if it is designed, planned and implemented in such a way to minimise negative impacts in the three dimensions above and if, at the same time, the event is able to leave a positive legacy to the community through, for example, impact compensation mechanisms and setting up continuous improvement plans, starting with the design of the next edition. Following the handing over of the ISO20121 Certification, a MoU was signed between RINA Services and the Italian Marine Industry Association – Confindustria Nautica was signed, marking the beginning of a shared commitment to set up a roadmap of services and activities in the ESG sphere aimed at the entire yachting value chain. The MoU aims to promote the development, across different levels, of initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of pooling their networks and identifying joint opportunities.
