CARLA DEMARIA, UCINA PRESIDENT: “WE SUPPORT ITALY’S BOATING INDUSTRY AND ITS BUSINESSES IN ITALY AND WORLDWIDE”
This morning in Rome, at the Pinacoteca del Tesoriere at Palazzo Patrizi, the Annual Assembly for UCINA Members took place, bringing together leisure boating entrepreneurs for a day dedicated to working together, comparing notes and staying up-to-date within the industry.
During the Assembly’s private session, the Members were provided with market predictions for the boating sector in 2019, the outcome of a study carried out by the Market Research Department at UCINA, the Italian Marine Industry Association.
The analysis shows that 63% of companies involved state that, based on their orders portfolio, they predict an increase in turnover for 2019. 14% of those interviewed describe an increase over 10%, 14% between 5 and 10%, and 35% an increase of up to 5%. For 28% of the companies interviewed, 2019 will be a stable year, while 9% predict a contraction in turnover compared with 2018.
In addition to this, elaborated data on Italy’s boating industry and its current trends was also presented, with regards to the preliminary figures for 2018, which register a 9.5% growth compared with the previous year. Specifically, the shipyard sector is witnessing an increase of 10.4% and the equipment sector (accessories and motors) 7.8%. The definitive data for 2018, based on the balance sheets of the industry’s businesses, will, as always, be presented at the 59th Genoa International Boat Show.
“The overall turnover for the industry over recent years has experienced an impressive and consolidated recovery. Businesses have once more placed their trust in the favourable winds of the sector, due in part to the excellent sales figures seen during the leading international boating shows, which have demonstrated the awakening of the European and Italian market”, commented Carla Demaria, President of UCINA.
The day’s activities will continue in the afternoon with the Public Assembly organised in the form of a roundtable entitled “Competing with the world, understanding Italy. The boating industry is leading the way”
Speakers will include: Carlo Cottarelli, Italian economist and Director of the Italian Public Accounts Observatory at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore; Ruggero Aricò, Vice President of the Assafrica & Mediterranean Confederation; Matteo Borsani, Director of the General Confederation of Italian Industry Delegation to the EU; Luigi Paparoni, Brand Identity Director of the General Confederation of Italian Industry; Gianni Pietro Girotto, President of the Senate’s Industry Commission; Edoardo Rixi, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
