An innovative 45-foot full foiling design, the OD 45 METIS was presented by Sangiorgio Marine at Boot Düsseldorf as part of an event organised by The Foiling Organisation in the boat show’s dedicated Foiling World section.
The new OD 45 METIS stems from the collaboration between Sangiorgio Marine led by CEO Edoardo Bianchi and the Guelfi D’Angeli studio run by Gianluca Guelfi and Fabio D’Angeli. The unit is equipped with steerable foils connected to the keel bulb that allow the boat to take flight in such a way as to ensure high levels of stability, redistributing lift between the foil and the central “manta foil”.
“This boat aims to make foiling more accessible, encouraging the participation of young sailors and female teams in ocean races,” stated Edoardo Bianchi.
The OD 45 METIS, capable of stable flight even during offshore sailing, is designed for a crew of 2-5 people and features an enclosed cockpit with large transparent surfaces for maximum visibility; in addition, the hull features flared inlet sections for better control during acceleration, when returning to the water, and when passing over waves.
The OD 45 METIS acts as a bridge between the Class40s and Imoca 60s, offering an innovative solution to skippers and teams aspiring to compete in offshore and foiling events.
