Today in Genoa, the city’s 59th International Boat Show was presented. Organised by UCINA (Italy’s Marine Industry Association), from 19th to 24th September the world-class fair will welcome industry professionals and sea enthusiasts to Liguria’s capital with a programme brimming with activities and special events for visitors to enjoy a 360° experience and learn about the very latest developments in international boating.
The 2019 edition will take place in an economic context that sees the recreational boating sector as healthy as ever this year. The overwhelming success of last year’s “multi-specialised” format, whereby visitors experienced four specialised Boat Shows in one, will be back for the 59th edition, offering a Tech Trade Show tailored to the components and accessories sector, a Sailing Show (Sailing World), a Show for the world of outboards (Boat Discovery) and a Show dedicated exclusively to Yachts and Superyachts.
Exhibitors and visitors will be greeted by a new Urban Wall: 1,500 square metres of surface entirely dedicated to welcoming the nautical world and all the enthusiasts who will be coming to the “Capital of Yachting” over the six days of the Genoa International Boat Show.
Alessandro Campagna, Commercial Director of the Genoa International Boat Show: “The base line of this year’s edition is the exhibitors’ requests for much greater display spaces than what we currently have at our disposal (28% more requests from the world of yachts and superyachts, 48% more for sailing, a staggering 73% for outboards and 35% for accessories). The exhibitors have reached 986, and the vessels on display will be over 1,000, with new brands taking part including Gulf Craft, Canados, Sunbeam, Franchini Yachts, Maxi Dolphin, Greenline, Axopar, Nadir Yacht, Solaris Power, Cayman Yachts, Coming Solutions, Excess Catamaran, Leopard Catamaran and Delta Catamarans. 48% of these new applications come from abroad, which confirms the trend seen across the past few Shows. And such a high level of interest finds its confirmation in the figures for online ticket sales, 136% higher than at the same date in 2018.”
In view of the international importance of the Show, there will be 150 international buyers and journalists from the world’s leading magazines, flying in from 25 countries, a result of the international press and B2B project organised by UCINA and the ITA (Italian Trade Agency), as part of the Extraordinary Plan to Promote the Made in Italy Brand launched by the Italian Ministry for Economic Development. Furthermore, in a dedicated section of the Show’s display area, the ITA will be hosting for the first time ever 5 start-ups selected by UCINA, from the materials, navigation apps and design sectors, who will have the chance to benefit from the visibility and the opportunity to take part in business matching.
The Flagships
The Flagships for the 2019 Genoa International Boat Show will be, for the world of sails, the Swan 78 from the shipyard Nautor’s Swan with her overall length of 25.66 metres and, for motors, the Sanlorenzo SD126 from Sanlorenzo, measuring 37.95 metres. The inflatables will be led by the Black Shiver 220jet from the shipyard Novamarine, which reaches 22 metres in length. While for the Charter category, visitors will be able to admire the Signora del Vento, with her 85 metres of overall length, one of Italy’s largest sailing ships, second only to the Italian Navy’s “Amerigo Vespucci”.
Conferences and Events
The Genoa International Boat Show has also always been an opportunity to assess the values and the challenges facing this sector, with a full events programme in store, featuring institutional conferences, seminars, roundtables and surrounding events carried out by the sector’s Association at the ForumUCINA. Thursday 19th September, the opening day of the fair, will be dedicated to analysing the data for the recreational boating industry: in the morning, on the Blue Pavilion’s Terrace, there will be the inauguration conference and the presentation of the completed study on behalf of the Symbola Foundation, “Le Capitali della Nautica”, while in the afternoon, in the ForumUCINA hall, the latest figures will be presented from “La Nautica in Cifre”, the annual publication created by UCINA in partnership with the General Industry Confederation’s Market Analysis Department, the Edison Foundation and Assilea – Italy’s Leasing Association. Over the course of six days things to do, visitors and exhibitors will be able to enjoy workshop initiatives, events and sports award ceremonies, including, on Sunday 22nd September at the Breitling Theatre, that of the Millevele regatta organised by the Italian Yacht Club.
These activities will be happening in parallel with those of the Sea Experience area, with the initiative Navigar m’è dolce run by FIV – Italy’s Sailing Federation and the “sea baptism” where visitors will be able to try out the latest in water sports. And as for the events tied to the Experience in città initiative, visitors are in for a treat: the Ocean Race regatta, four days of challenges at sea in front of the Corso Italia.
New facilities
Among the many additions this year is the VIP Helicopter Service, which will allow visitors to reach the Genoa International Boat Show by helicopter, landing on a helipad inside the display area of the Show, and the online ticket office featuring a fast lane, an exclusive lane to access the Boat Show swiftly and directly. As for food & drink, Show partner Eataly will be back, this year focusing on experiencing the territory.
The new format of a Liguria Lounge on the Colombo Terrace, thanks to the event’s partnership with the Liguria Region, will be reserved for the fair’s exhibitors, allowing them to experience a chance to meet and compare notes in the evenings after the Boat Show closes its gates. The participation of the top management of the leading national and international shipyards makes for an important opportunity for the Liguria Region to establish relationships and discuss the growth and development of a sector that is key for the territory as a whole.
Partners and Sponsors
