15 November 2021

Netherlands imposes partial lockdownover 60% of Italian businesses exhibiting at METSTRADE 2021 (16th – 18th November) forfeit 1,185 sqm of display space out of the 1,956 sqm reserved.

The Italian Marine Industry Association fully supports the decisions made by all Italian businesses.

Genoa, 14th November: the recent restrictions imposed by the Dutch government on 12th November aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19, have had a significant impact on METSTRADE 2021, the international industry event dedicated to boating components and equipment, scheduled to take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 16th to 18th November.

The Italian Marine Industry Association received reports from 86 Italian exhibitors, previously scheduled to take part as members of the business delegation assigned to the Dutch trade fare, and from a number of other Italian businesses who contacted the Association directly. Following these reports and the Dutch government’s decision to impose a partial lockdown, the Italian Marine Industry Association has informed the event organisers via official statement that over 60% of Italian businesses registered to exhibit at METSTRADE would not be taking part, forfeiting a total of 1,185 sqm out of the 1,956 sqm reserved.

Undoubtedly, it would have been simpler and less costly to allow staff members to travel to the Netherlands regardless and take part in the event, however, in view of the decision made by the Dutch government, Italian businesses chose to prioritise the health and safety of their employees and collaborators, a principle that has prevailed since the outbreak of the pandemic. An appropriate response, despite their deep regret for having to miss out on the key opportunities for business development and networking such an important B2B event can offer. Another factor taken into account was the risk that the healthcare situation could continue to deteriorate as it has been over the past few weeks.

The Italian Marine Industry Association confirms its unwavering support for its members and all Italian businesses, whether they decide to take part in the event or not.
