En route to Paris 2024 – Four more crews join team Italy

The national team that will be representing Italy in the sailing categories of the Paris 2024 Olympics, scheduled to kick off on 28th July in Marseille, can now count four more crews. During its meeting today, 15th February the Federal Council of the Italian Sailing Federation with President Francesco Ettorre accepted the proposals by Technical Director Michele Marchesini, who put forward the names of four additional crews.

The athletes proposed and accepted are as follows: are Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini (originally from the sailing club Fraglia Vela Riva and coach Giorgio Poggi) competing as a sailor for the Italian State Police and chosen for the men’s single ILCA 7 class (the former Laser), Nicolò Renna, a Fiamme Oro athlete (registered, that is, under the Italian State Police) from the Circolo Surf Torbole club and coached by Adriano Stella for the iQFOiL class (windsurfing with foil) and, also in the iQFOil category, Cagliari’s Marta Maggetti (her coach Riccardo Belli Dell’Isca and her sailing club the Windsurfing Club Cagliari), also registered with the Fiamme Gialle (Italian Finance Police – Guardia di Finanza).

The fourth crew out forward by Marchesini and which, like the others, will be proposed to the Italian Olympic Committee CONI for approval, is that of the mixed Nacra 17 catamaran duo made up of Trentino’s Ruggero Tita and Rome’s Caterina Marianna Banti, athletes registered with the Italian Finance Police the Guardia di Finanza and the Circolo Canottieri Aniene sailing club respectively, coached by Gabriele Bruni and gold medallists at the Tokyo Olympics.

These four crews join those already submitted for CONI approval: for the ILCA 6 Class that of Chiara Benini Floriani, an athlete of Fraglia Vela Riva registered for the Fiamme Gialle and, for the double 49er:FX, that composed of Jana Germani (first club the Y. C. Cupa) and Giorgia Bertuzzi (Fraglia Vela Malcesine), coached by Gianfranco Sibello and both athletes sailing under the Italian the Navy.
