Baglietto’s first hybrid to make its debut in 2025

26 March 2024

Baglietto has plans to install the first the hybrid propulsion system developed in collaboration with Siemens and CGT on board its yachts in 2025. And it will be the DOM 133 and T 52 models that will be the first to have the innovative interposed propulsion system, representing a further step forward by the Shipyard in the use of new eco-sustainable technologies on board its yachts.

The new system will allow for a greater flexibility of use, compactness of installation and on-board comfort as well as improved mechanical and electrical efficiency for a hybrid-parallel propulsion architecture,” comments Diego Michele Deprati, CEO of Baglietto. “Once again Baglietto demonstrates its determination to take innovative paths towards the implementation of alternative energy sources on board. This is a further step towards the commitment already made by the shipyard with the Bzero system for a truly sustainable future boating industry“.

The new system recently bench-tested and developed by Siemens Energy in collaboration with Stromag and Lucchi Motori is composed of a Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesel and an ultra-compact 180 kW hybrid unit which acts as an electric drive and as an axle generator, to optimise consumption as much as possible. All managed by the Siemens Energy BlueDrive Eco, an advanced propulsion control system.

The operating modes of Baglietto’s new hybrid system are diesel, with the engine fuelled by diesel derived 100% from renewable raw materials, i.e. HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and synthetic diesel (e-diesel), diesel-electric with a speed of 9 knots, and full-electric with the propulsion system powered by the latest generation of safe and reliable prismatic cell Li-ion battery packs, expandable up to 900kWh.
