CROWDS OF VISITORS FLOCKED TO THE GENOA INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW’S QUAYS AND EXHIBITION AREAS

DAY THREE SAW START-UPS TAKE CENTRE STAGE: THE SUPPLY CHAIN LOOKS TO THE FUTURE

AT THE EBERHARD & CO THEATRE, ALL EYES ON SAILING

In upholding its commitment to look towards a more sustainable future, this year the Genoa International Boat Show is once again focused on the most promising Start-Ups breathing new knowledge and innovation into the yachting sector.

Twelve Start-Ups took to the stage of the Blue Pavilion’s Terrace, overlooking a bright Saturday morning, and were presented to a crowded audience during the event “The Yachting Industry’s Innovative Start-Ups” organised by the Italian Marine Industry Association – Confindustria Nautica.

The Start-Ups showcased during the event – five of which are present at the 64th Genoa International Boat Show with exhibition stands in the dedicated “Tech Trade” area located on the upper floor of the Blue Pavilion, a presence made possible thanks to the cooperation between the Italian Marine Industry Association and the Italian Trade Agency for the Promotion and Internationalisation of Italian businesses. The following companies are present at the Genoa Boat Show: Captayn, Easysea, FUTUR-E, EHYFA, and Novac, joined by PoliMI – NUGAE S.R.L., PoliTo – Sailing Team, SCIA SERVICES S.R.L., SEAform, SYSTEM INNOVATION GROUP, VOLTA Structural Energy, and Watermill.

The joint promotional activity allows for the consolidation of Made in Italy excellence throughout the sector, offering year after year as one of its central objectives the development of new and innovative projects through the support of start-up companies related to the yachting world.

The concepts and fields of application vary greatly: from intuitive and accessible apps for boat maintenance, to mouldable super-condensers, to young brands designing innovative and smart nautical equipment, to avant-garde motorboats, to hull coatings capable of combatting marine pollution.

Alessandro Gianneschi, Vice-President of the Italian Marine Industry Association, opened the event by emphasising: “We are here once again this year to shine a global spotlight on a number of start-ups innovating everything from boat maintenance to equipment and smart devices. I would like to thank the Italian Trade Agency for their invaluable cooperation“.

Andrea Mattiello, Head of the Italian Trade Agency’s Capital Goods Office, commented: “the Italian Trade Agency has put together an effective support project for the Genoa International Boat Show featuring this year’s international press and buyers tour, which has allowed members of the foreign press and international buyers to meet with companies exhibiting at the Boat Show. Yesterday we had an opportunity to visit the companies presenting their projects here today. Start-up businesses are essential to the Made in Italy industry. We currently count over fifteen thousand active start-ups, an area on which the government keeps a close eye. The Italian Trade Agency supports the participation of start-ups in the event and even offers a specific training programme.”

The annual Italian Sailing Federation day at the Genoa International Boat Show returned once again this year on Saturday, animated by the participation of Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist Marta Maggetti, joined on stage by another Olympic gold medallist, Alessandra Sensini, currently federal youth technical director, alongside Sailing Federation President Francesco Ettorre and technical director Michele Marchesini. The event was dedicated to celebrating Marta’s golden achievement and the six golds she won at the Junior World Championships in July on Lake Garda. All of these sporting successes were also made possible by the exceptional work of Italian managers, technicians and athletes. On Sunday, the rest of the Italian gold medal sailing Olympus will be visiting the Genoa Boat Show following the Paris Games: Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti, having just claimed their second gold in a row after Tokyo.

On Saturday, the Genoa International Boat Show also hosted the presentation of the 16th edition of the 151 Miglia Cetilar Trophy, the offshore regatta scheduled to take place on 30th May 2025, organised as per tradition by a Committee of clubs made up of Repubblica Marinara di Pisa Yacht Club, the Punta Ala Yacht Club, and the Livorno Yacht Club. On the stage of the Eberhard & Co. Theatre, following on from a Saturday dedicated to high-tier sailing, representatives from each of the organising clubs were greeted and invited on stage by the President of the Italian Sailing Federation Francesco Ettorre, who always takes part in the start of the 151 Miglia. The representatives illustrated in great detail all the changes made to this new edition, starting with the most important: the regatta’s new route, perfectly summed up in the claim “Sea Change.”

The day came to a close with an event organised by the Barche magazine, “Offshore mania” during which the trailer of a new podcast was presented alongside the podcast’s authors, followed by a discussion with the historic names of the golden years of offshore sailing.
