Cantiere del Pardo unveils the peak of sustainability: the Grand Soleil Blue

3 December 2024

Naval architecture by Matteo Polli, interior design by Nauta Design and sustainable materials by NL Comp. Combined, these contributions have given life to Cantiere del Pardo’s latest addition to its roster of innovative creations, the Grand Soleil Blue, which is scheduled to make its debut at Boot 2025.  “The sea represents both our passion and our home,” commented Gigi Servidati, President of Cantiere del Pardo. “With the GS Blue, we have shown that design, performance and sustainability can coexist in harmony by creating a boat designed for future generations.”

At 10 metres in length, the Grand Soleil Blue by Cantiere del Pardo features, as perhaps its most important characteristic, the fact that it can truly be described as the very first sailing boat with zero environmental impact. Once it reaches the end of its life cycle, the boat remains entirely recyclable.

Every component of the Grand Soleil Blue has in fact been carefully selected to be reusable, preventing today’s materials from becoming tomorrow’s waste and, as the yard itself explains, “it redefines the concept of sustainability in the world of sailing“.

To achieve this, the Grand Soleil Blue is the result of several cutting-edge design and building methods, ranging from sustainable construction with the innovative use of thermoplastic resin, a technology developed by NL Comp, to a smart design approach that allows equipment and components to be easily separated.

Added to these key decisions are the use of lithium batteries for electric propulsion with an E-Propulsion Pod Drive that also allows the batteries to be recharged while sailing by exploiting hydro-generation, the installation of solar panels, and the choice to make use of sails in thermoplastic materials developed by OneSails, along with the sailmaker’s 4T FORTE, the world’s first “green sails”.
