64th Genoa International Boat Show – What’s New: The return of a legend: the new Grand Soleil 52 Performance

6 August 2024

Cantiere del Pardo has chosen Matteo Polli for the naval architecture and Nauta Design for the exteriors, interiors, and layout of the new model soon to make its debut at the 64th Genoa International Boat Show. The debut will be that of the new Grand Soleil 52 Performance, inspired by a true legend among boats: the Grand Soleil 52, as designed by Germán Frers in 1987 and of which approximately sixty examples were created.

The new Grand Soleil 52 measures 17.05 metres in length by 5.15 metres of maximum beam, available in both a Performance and Race version, so that the unit might meet the needs both of customers who prefer fast cruising and those who are in search of a more dynamic solution. The deck layout allows for easy sailing in the version designed for cruising, with a self-tacking jib, standard carbon bowsprit and a cockpit free of any rigging. For the Race version, there is an increased sail plan and bowsprit that made to be 90 cm longer than the standard version, along with a cockpit equipped with six winches.

The interior of the new Grand Soleil 52 Performance includes a galley to the left of the descent from the cockpit, followed by the living area equipped with a dinette, also to the left, and sofa to starboard. There are three cabins with a master cabin with its bathroom forward and, aft, two double cabins or one double and one twin, all with their own bathroom.

State-of-the-art electronics and onboard systems are another stand-out feature of the new Grand Soleil 52, which runs on a Volvo Penta 75 hp (or Yanmar 89 hp) auxiliary engine featuring a saildrive and manoeuvring propellers (bow and stern) with brushless, silent and low maintenance motors.
