64th Genoa International Boat Show – What’s New: The new Elan GT6 Explorer will sail around the world

23 August 2024

Here’s how to transform a comfortable cruiser into a blue water cruiser, a boat with which to sail around the world. Elan has done just that with its brand new Elan GT6 Explorer, a model that Adria Ship will be presenting at its debut during this year’s 64th Genoa International Boat Show.

An evolution of the GT6, one of Elan’s most successful models, a 15.14 metre long by 4.49 metre wide sloop designed by the F.A Porsche studio together with Rob Humphreys, the Elan GT6 Explorer is the result of a series of interventions aimed at making the model suitable for long-distance navigation, starting with the installation of a second forestay for a self-tacking foresail.

Other interventions have involved a new roll bar on which the mainsail sheet has been put back and the design of the cockpit with all the winches within easy reach and more space for passengers who will be able to stay well away from the rigging area.

The interiors have also been redesigned by the F.A Porsche studio with the chart table placed on the starboard side and before the forward bulkhead and in front of the galley, located in the most stable section of the boat.

There are two interior layouts available: with an owner’s cabin in the bow and a double berth down the cockpit. Or with an owner’s cabin in the bow and, aft and to the left of the entrance, a double bed, thus obtaining a large free compartment to starboard.

For the Elan GT 6 Explorer, a boat destined for long voyages, the aspect of how to power such a model is of fundamental importance. Thus, the Explorer features a 500 litre fuel tank for a Yanmar 57 hp diesel, six 140 Ah batteries, 1187 Wp solar panels and a 6400W generator.
