64th Genoa International Boat Show – What’s New: SMartyr SCP presents a revolution in cathodic protection systems

17 September 2024

Effective and environmentally friendly cathodic protection. This is what the Canadian CMP Group, in cooperation with the Italian company Piombino Tech and the US company Quality Mark, will be presenting at 64th Genoa International Boat Show.

The new SMartyr SCP (Sustainable Corrosion Protection) system provides effective cathodic protection without the environmental drawbacks of traditional materials. Zinc anodes, the most commonly used, are in fact a serious environmental problem as they release heavy metals into marine ecosystems, with a negative impact on the seabed, flora and fauna.

For this reason, the SMartyr SCP system is free of elements such as cadmium, mercury, indium and copper, and does not degrade and/or leave deposits on the seabed. It uses an innovative, internationally patented, self-contained impressed current technology (ICCP) that connects to the underside of the vessel to protect metal components from galvanic corrosion.

High-efficiency solar panels coupled with large-capacity lithium-ion batteries housed in an IP68 waterproof case ensure an expected life of 2-3 years, reducing the frequency of traditional anode replacements and maintenance costs.

Finally, the SMartyr SCP system elements are provided with a slim design: hydrodynamically optimised to minimise resistance in high-flux underwater applications and are easy to install.
