64th GENOA INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW PRESENTED
AT THE FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW
28th October 2023, Fort Lauderdale (Florida) – From 25th to 29th October the best of the Italian yachting industry will be represented in Fort Lauderdale for FLIBS (the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show), the US industry event dedicated to the yachting sector.
FLIBS (the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show) is recognised as one of the largest boat shows in the world: in 2022, the event hosted more than 1,000 exhibitors from 52 countries with 1,300 boats on display and saw close to 100,000 visitors over 5 days of exhibition. 2023 estimates predict overall turnover to approach $2 billion.
At the heart of the US show was a key moment for the Italian market and yachting sector as well: the presentation of the record results achieved by the 63rd Genoa International Boat Show and the launch of next year’s 64th edition, scheduled to take place from 19th to 24th September 2024.
The exceptional venue chosen for such a presentation at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach.
In 2022, Italy once again surpassed the post 2021 export record in the United States with 69 billion dollars of business, a result to which the yachting sector contributed.
If in 2021 Italy was in second place in the ranking of boat importers in the US with $441.4 million, the Made in Italy brand has confirmed this position once again in 2022 but with a +30% increase on 2021 ($575 million): this is a new record for sales in the US, with a trend that has continued to grow throughout this year, already recording a +40% jump in July 2023. And while the last quarter is always the most important period for US purchases originating in Italy, we will still see growth as in the last 10 years.
While total spending on yachting reached a high of $56.7 billion in 2021 (NMMA data, including marine investments) and is primarily based on recreational and fishing boats, total imports are at $4.1 billion (this includes all boat types), an increase of 32.6% over 2021: numbers that confirm the importance of continuing to invest in this market as the growth margins for imports of Italian products are still high in Florida, the leading market with $494 million, followed by New York/New Jersey ($38 million) and Michigan ($11 million).
For this 2023 edition of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, the Italian Trade Agency – Miami Office has organised a delegation – formed in close cooperation with Confindustria Nautica, the Italian Marine Industry Association – of 21 companies showcasing their products across 24 spaces over a total surface area of approximately 216 square metres, dedicated to the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Marine Industry Association stand along with the participating companies.
“The 63rd Genoa International Boat Show ended with numbers attesting to its unique offer to its international audience: 118,269 visitors, a 13.9% increase compared to 2022, 1,043 brands on display, more than 1,000 boats with 143 extra berths in the water thanks to the opening of the Show’s new canals – stated Saverio Cecchi, President of the Italian Marine Industry Association- This event mirrors an industry that continues to sail ahead at full speed and that has recorded a global turnover of €7.33 billion in 2022, up 20% on the previous year. We are the first manufacturer in the world of boats over 24 metres, first in inflatable units over 10 metres, first in boating equipment. We are also the world’s leading exporter of boats with a global share of 18.3%. The USA consolidates its supremacy as the main importer of yachts produced in Italy, with an increase of 57%”.
“We have been working for 2 years to consolidate the importance and reputation of the Genoa International Boat Show: from NYC to Newport, in the iconic venues of world yachting and then on to commercial venues such as Ft. Lauderdale. Branding in the US is a keyword that is synonymous with success, and the figures prove this is the case: because with this 4th event on 27th October we will have reached two years of record visitors at the Genoa Boat Show…And the best is still to come in 2024, with the completion of the Boat Show’s entirely new venue designed by Renzo Piano”- stated Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Italian Trade Agency – Miami Office Director.
