Another full day at the Genoa International Boat Show.
Design Innovation Award
The third day has come to a close marking the halfway point of the 60th edition of the world-class showcase in the heart of the Ligurian Capital. The programme opened with the award ceremony for the first ever edition of the “Design Innovation Award”, a brand new event launched in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Show organised by the Italian Marine Industry Association and the company I Saloni Nautici, aimed at supporting and encouraging excellence in the boating industry and awarding innovation among the exhibitors taking part in the Genoa Boat Show. The award acknowledges products on display at the Show and which have been presented over the course of the past year.
Selecting the winners this year is an international Jury, featuring Silvia Piardi, Professor of Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano, Franco Michienzi, Chief Editor of the magazine Barche, Andrea Pagnin, Innovation Strategist at the Italian Institute of Technology, Justin Ratcliffe, Editor in Chief at Yachts International, Philip Easthill, Secretary General of EBI – European Boat Industry. Jury President is architect Luisa Bocchietto – Senator at the WDO – World Design Organization.
“This year’s edition – explained Luisa Bocchietto – is edition number zero for an award that is set to become a hallmark event over the next few years, showcasing the most innovative products of the year. The values we have aimed to express through this selection are the importance of research, innovation, technical quality, formal quality and sustainability”.
Here are the winners of the very first Design Innovation Awards 2020. The prize for the cruiser sailing boat category goes to the Swan 65 by Nautor’s Swan while, for racing sailing boats, the Mylius 80 FD from Mylius Yachts took the award.
The Coaster 650 Plus by Joker Boat srl wins the RIBs category, while for motorboats (from 10 to 24m) the TT 460 Invictus by Invictus.
The Superyacht Design Innovation Award (over 24m) goes to the SX112 by Sanlorenzo.
The Seadrive Electric POD from Seadrive, showcased at the Genoa Boat Show by SAIM, wins the category dedicated to Boating equipment and components.
The Design Innovation Award ceremony for 2020 also awarded an Honourable Mention to Ecoprimus from the start-up Northern Light Composites and a Special Prize for Innovation a MAMBO – Motor Additive Manufacturing Boat by MOI Composites Srl.
Special Prize for Career goes to F.lli Razeto & Casareto which is celebrating their 100th anniversary as a company.
The seminar “Boating business networks – From a scenario analysis to a blockchain platform for digital network ideas” offered a an in-depth discussion with operators from the boating sector about the phenomenon of business networks and about the opportunities such a tool can provide in terms of innovative and competitive growth across the industry. During the seminar, a number of key outcomes were presented from the study entitled “A network of boating businesses”, carried out by RetImpresa and the Italian Marine Industry Association during the 60th edition of the Genoa International Boat Show. The second portion of the event was dedicated to presenting the “RetImpresa Registry”, a national debut for the open innovation platform designed to share network ideas between companies via blockchain systems and to encourage the creation of digital network identities.
Alessandro Gianneschi , Vice President of the Italian Marine Industry Association and Board Member of RetImpresa: “With this meeting we wanted to provide our entrepreneurs with new points for possible collaborations between companies, as to form a synergy from which to enhance the Made in Italy brand. Enterprise networks show great potential, especially as a support function for internationalization and when it comes to participating in tenders and funding, so overall the network is a plus. “
Carlo La Rotonda , Director of RetImpresa : “The data tells us that 662 companies in the boating sector are connected with 409 network contracts and that the boating sector itself is part of a network that connects it with other sectors as well, especially in the North. The numbers are important in terms of percentages: from 19th August 2019 to 19th August 2020 there was a growth of 19-20% in networks, with the prevalence of the commercial and market-oriented kind.
Davide Ippolito (Selda Informatica): “Being part of a network is a guarantee. With the Internet and the transition from a local reality to the global stage, the level of guarantee between connections is fundamental and a priority. The RetImpresa Registry platform allows certified matching operations between ideas and companies.”
Angelo Lippolis , (Selda Informatica) : “Blockchain is a technology currently witnessing a growing trend, capable of ensuring great security at the level of certifiable and inviolable digital identities, where companies can propose network ideas or come forward with an idea of their own.”
Side events
Today was also the day dedicated to events organized by the Italian Sailing Federation, present, as is tradition every year, with its stand in the Sailing World area under the large tensile structure in front of the Sailing World, today the true protagonist of a series of events that took place between the same Federal stand and the press room.
In the first part of the day, space was given to sailing schools, in the meeting ” Rediscovering the Compass, the Summer boom of the federal sailing schools“, with the President of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) Francesco Ettorre and the Vice President of CONI, as well as head of federal youth activities, Alessandra Sensini. At the end of the event, the ten best Sailing Schools of the FIV Sailing Clubs were awarded, with the first prize going to the Cagliari Windsurfing Club.
Afterwards, the Regatta of the Saracen Towers was presented, an event in stages reserved for offshore boats, and the e-learning project in collaboration between the Italian Sailing Federation and La Sapienza University in Rome, represented for the occasion by Prof. Barbara Mazza.
Among today’s premieres was the Grand Soleil 44, presented for the first time to the global audience. The 13.40 from Cantiere del Pardo completes the Performance range of Grand Soleil Yachts, dedicated to the more sporty owners and looking for a high performance boat, capable of giving results even in regattas.
General Assembly of the Italian Marine Industry Association
The sixtieth edition of the Genoa International Boat Show was also an opportunity for an important moment of discussion and intense activity with regards to the Italian Marine Industry Association.
The General Assembly of the Association took place this afternoon, during which the constitution of the 9th Sector Assembly was confirmed, dedicated to recreational leasing and charter companies operating in the boating sector. The new Assembly then voted its own President and members of the Presidential Council. Simone Morelli of North Sardinia Sail was thus appointed President of the Sector 9 Assembly . Santi Ilacqua from Sunsicily , Sebastiano Iuculano from Mediterranean Blue Services, Alessandro Picciau representing Cagliari Sailing Charter and Stefano Pizzi of Spartivento Group were elected as Councillors .
Finally, the Assembly of sector 8 – Companies that make up the distribution network – convened in the presence of the President of the Italian Marine Industry Association Saverio Cecchi, Vice-President of the Italian Marine Industry Association Piero Formenti and General Manager of the Italian Marine Industry Association Marina Stella , to vote for the Chairman and the Directors. Six councilors were elected: Salvatore Grasso – Fimarsud , Peter Mancini – Calpasen , Nunzio Daniele Lombardi – Nautica Rio Martino, Emanuele Messina – Nautica Ispra, Stefano Napoli – Milnautica , Lorenzo Piazzolla – Nauty Sport. Elected President of the Assembly was Luca Pavia – Maresport Team.
Saverio Cecchi, President of the Italian Marine Industry Association had this to say: “the Italian Marine Industry Association is strongly committed to its mission to represent the entire yachting industry, both large and small companies. Today we have taken a further step forward in terms of an ever greater representation of our member companies, with the establishment of the 9th sector Assembly within the Association, which follows the establishment of the 8th sector Assembly, recognizing the important role of charters for the nautical sector.”
