Day 4 of the 64th Genoa International Boat Show opened with events dedicated to the sport of sailing. On the terrace of the Blue Pavilion, prizes were awarded to the winners of the 36th IREN Millevele regatta. The sailing regatta, supported among many other partners by the Italian Marine Industry Association – Confindustria Nautica and the Genoa International Boat Show, this year saw the participation of over 200 boats.

The prize-giving ceremony kicked off with a greeting from the President of the Italian Yacht Club, Carlo Cameli, and the Honourable Ilaria Cavo, Liguria’s Regional Councillor for Education and Culture and Vice President of the Commission for Productive Activities, Trade and Tourism, who has always been a loyal presence at the IREN Millevele.

The prizes were awarded as follows: in group A (Red), reserved to boats over 18 metres, to Carlo Puri Negri’s Atalanta II, which for the occasion also hosted on board the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci; in the green group (from 11 to 18 metres), to Fabio Caroli’s Stream 40 Jack Sparrow; and in the yellow group (under 11 metres), to Fabio Iorio’s Archambault M34 Manida, which completed the course in just under 1h40m.

At the end of the ceremony, Association President Saverio Cecchi awarded the Confindustria Nautica Prizes to the exhibitors of Genoa 64th Genoa International Boat Show who took part in the event: X-Yacht Italia (group C) with Imxtinente collected by Fabio Baffigi, and Gran Soleil Yacht with Mira (group B) collected by Fabio Planamente.

The Challenge Trophy for Mayors, established by the Italian Marine Industry Association and I Saloni Nautici, was also awarded. Having been won for two years in a row by Marco Bucci, this year it was assigned to the Mayor of Zoagli Fabio de Ponti. The morning then continued onto the stage at the forefront of the Eberhard & Co. Theatre with a panel featuring Olympic gold medallist Caterina Banti joined by the President of the Italian Sailing Federation Francesco Ettore and DT Michele Marchesini. The talk given retraced the extraordinary career of the golden athlete specialising in the Nacra 17 Foiling category. Together with Ruggero Tita, over the last four years Banti has formed one of the most successful crews in this discipline. Her sporting achievements include four European and three World titles; in 2020 the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, followed by another gold in Paris 2024.
