64th Genoa International Boat Show – What’s New: A European premiere for Yamaha’s new hydrogen FB H2

17 September 2024

Yamaha has always been committed to the constant search for advanced solutions and technologies aimed at improving every aspect of its products. A perfect demonstration of this is its new hydrogen-powered H2 outboard that the company will be presenting as a European premiere at the 64th Genoa International Boat Show in Genoa.

The prototype of the world’s first hydrogen-powered outboard for yachting units will be accompanied by an innovative package-integrated power system.

The prototype was subjected to numerous in-water tests over the summer, implementing its efficiency and achieving extremely satisfactory results. For this project, Yamaha collaborated with Roush to develop the power system for this new outboard and with Regulator Marine, a prestigious shipyard, to build a boat suitable for testing this prototype.

Specifically, Regulator Marine built a hull based on the 26XO model and modified it to accommodate the hydrogen tanks needed to power the new outboard. Together, Yamaha, Regulator and Roush are presenting the hull, fuel system and outboard to demonstrate how hydrogen can work as a potential fuel in the marine environment.

Yamaha’s ambitious goal is to make its production processes carbon neutral by 2035 and develop a carbon neutral product range by 2050.
