Being equipped with a saloon that is larger than that of a 90-footer is just one of the features that make the new 80-foot Y8 by Y Yachts truly stand out. The model was launched last March and will be making her debut as a flagship of the sailing industry at this year’s upcoming 64th Genoa International Boat Show.
Measuring 23.99 metres in length (25.99 metres with bowsprit) and with a maximum beam of 6.58 metres that stretches all the way to the stern, the new Y8, designed by Javier Jaudenes of the British firm Surge-Projects, is built in carbon and combines the most cutting-edge technological solutions with formidable attention paid to the use of sustainable processes and materials.
Featuring a carbon mast, hydraulic system for adjustments, self-tacking jib, halyards and sheets that run under the deck to reach the winches next to the two wheelhouses, these are some of the solutions that, together with a refined sail plan of 344.5 square metres, allow the owner, according to the Y Yachts philosophy, to manage their yacht themself.
The deck plan is barely marked by the extensively glazed deckhouse and the guest cockpit is fitted with a fixed bimini. The design of the interiors is particularly worthy of note and can be organised with the owner’s suite forward or aft and, in either case, with two or three guest cabins.
The owner of the first Y8 opted for a substantially personal solution with the inclusion of a lounge area at the foot of the descent from the cockpit and, towards the bow and slightly lowered, the dining area with an extendable table preceding the owner’s suite.
The décor of the Y8’s interior, designed by Danish architect David Thulstrup, is inspired by a play on dark woods, used for the bulkheads, flooring and architectural elements, while for the ceiling, seating and upholstery, beige tones have been chosen, in order to create an environment characterised primarily by a markedly formal elegance.
