The 11th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge held at the Yacht Club de Monaco came to a close in Monaco on Saturday 6th July. Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo also took part alongside the two competing Italian teams, Elettra UniGe from Genoa and UNIBOAT from Bologna.
Fifty teams from 40 universities across 25 nations participated in the 2024 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge in which they were tasked with developing boats powered by renewable energy sources, promoting sustainable solutions for the future of yachting through propulsion systems and alternative hull designs.
“We are convinced that supporting the next generation will help us meet the challenges concerning sustainability,” stated Massimo Perotti, president and CEO of Sanlorenzo and mentor of the two teams.
“Sanlorenzo’s participation in this competition,” continued the former president of the Italian Marine Industry Association Confindustria Nautica, “reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, fundamental elements of Sanlorenzo’s philosophy. We firmly believe that investing in young talent is essential to ensuring a sustainable and innovative future for the yachting sector.”
During the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, Sanlorenzo’s R&D team worked closely with the two university research groups, sharing knowledge and resources to promote innovation across the industry.
