Two more athletes join the Italian national team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Marseille from 28th July. Michele Marchesini, technical director of the Italian Sailing Federation, has announced the names that he will propose to the next Federal Council, which in turn will submit them to the Italian National Olympic Committee for final approval.
The two athletes will be competing in the Formula Kite Women’s and Men’s specialities: Maggie Pescetto and Riccardo Pianosi, who will be added to the six crews already submitted to the National Olympic Committee CONI for approval and to which the crews of the other two Classes, 49er Men’s Skiff and 470 Mixed Doubles could also be added, who have their Last Chance Olympic qualifications at the end of April.
Maggie Eillen Pescetto, who races in the Women’s Formula Kite, was born in Waterford, Ireland, and has always lived in Genoa, a member of the Yacht Club Italiano. Last year she won the Olympic pass by nation at the World Championships in Den Haag (Netherlands) and this year a bronze at the International Open Cup and ninth place at the European Championships.
Riccardo Pianosi competing in the Men’s Formula Kita, was born in Pesaro, is a member of the Italian Navy and won a silver medal at the 2024 European Championships, as well as a gold at the 2023 European Championships and a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships.
