Bluegame and Sangiorgio Marine bring a flying tender to the America’s Cup

Flying above the waves at 50 knots and propelled by a hydrogen engine. This is what the Bluegame BGH-HSV (Hydrogen Support Vessel) developed by Sanlorenzo brand Bluegame and built by the Genoese shipyard Sangiorgio Marine will be bringing to the 37^th edition of the America’s Cup. The tender was launched yesterday, Tuesday 18^th March, from the port of Genoa.

The 10-metre-long Bluegame BGH-HSV will be the tender for the New York Yacht Club’s American Magic team racing in the 37th America’s Cup, scheduled to take place with the first regattas on 22^nd August in Barcelona, and has been built in compliance with the stringent rules of the world’s oldest regatta, which require the use of foil-equipped, hydrogen-powered assistance boats.

The Bluegame BGH-HSV, which was promoted by Luca Santella, Bluegame’s designer and Head of Product Strategy, took two years of development and work with Ferdinando Garré and Edoardo Bianchi’s company Sangiorgio Marine, who oversaw the construction of the carbon fibre hull, components and systems.

Godmother of the launch attended by Sanlorenzo’s president and CEO, Cavalier Massimo Perotti, and Carla Demaria, CEO of Bluegame (both former presidents of the Italian Marine Industry Association Confindustria Nautica), was Luca Santella’s wife, Paola.

Assigned to American Magic, the Bluegame BGH-HSV will be followed by a following model destined for another team in the 37th America’s Cup: the French team Orient Express. But that is not all. The success of the Bluegame BGH-HSV continues with the nomination for the Foiling Awards, the highest recognition in the foiling world, to be awarded on 18^th April during the first World Foiling Congress that will see the Italian Marine Industry Association among the sponsors and is scheduled to be held in Genoa from 17^th to 19^th April.
